NSSCA Player Achievements at the Canadian Open

A group of NSSCA players recently traveled to Calgary, Alberta, for the Canadian Open chess tournament and had some fantastic results! Below is a summary:

Jerjis Kapra tied for 6th place with an amazing 7 points out of 10! Jerjis lasted 40 moves against GM Evgeny Bareev in round 2, then went on to beat NM Neil Doknjas and draw GM Abhijeet Gupta. With a performance of 2233 Jerjis has reached a new high of 2231.

Calix Marchand scored 5 points out of 10 and played against numerous titled players such as FM Anthony Atanasov, IM Alexander Reprintsev, IM Raymond Kaufman and NM Neil Doknjas. Special note that Calix beat his first International Master over the board by beating IM Raymond Kaufman in round 6!

Michelle Zhang scored 5 points out of 10 with great results against titled players, drawing with IM Leon Piasetski and beating NM Vladislav Rekhson. With a rating performance of 2113, Michelle has broken the 2000 barrier and is now rated 2018! Special note that Michelle also tied for first (second on tiebreaks) in the Canadian Youth Chess Championship Under 10 Girls division.

Brian Zhang scored 5 points out of 10 and got to face off against GM Evgeny Bareev in round 1! Brian also drew NM Vladislav Rekhson. Special note that Brian tied for second place in the Canadian Youth Chess Championship Under 14 Open division.

Andy Wang scored 6 points out of 10 while playing titled players such as NM Neil Doknjas, NM Anand Rishi Chandra and FM Dale Haessel!
