Chess Nova Scotia is kindly offering free Learn to Play and Advanced Chess Workshops to players of all ages at the Halifax Central Library. The following sessions are coming up:
January 19, 2020
Lesson: Middlegame Plans and Opening Essentials: This session will be led by Tal Younis, a local chess expert and reigning champion of the annual Bluenose Open tournament. Players will learn how to make plans and navigate through the middlegame and understand the principles of chess openings as key to middlegame plans. Tal’s session is recommended for players ranging from a rating of 700-1300. However, players of all skill levels are welcome!
February 16, 2020
Lesson: Basic Tactics: This session will be led by Neil MacDonald of the Dalhousie Chess Club. Neil’s lesson will explore basic tactics: pins, forks, skewers, etc., all very important elements to developing chess players. This session is recommended for beginner and intermediate level players. However, players of all skill levels are welcome.
