Pawn Wise: The Atlantic All-Ages Chess Festival July 29 – August 2

Pawn Wise: The Atlantic All-Ages Chess Festival is taking place from July 29 to August 2. It is less than a month away!! We are excited to welcome everyone to this event.

This is Nova Scotia’s largest chess event in history and it consists of two major tournaments, the Canadian Seniors Chess Championship and the Nova Scotia Mayflower Open. The Mayflower Open is an all ages classical chess event and we are hoping some of our youth players take advantage of this opportunity to play in a tournament with celebrity players in our own backyard! If you haven’t already registered, check the link below to sign up!

Even if you aren’t interested in playing classical chess, there will be spectator seating on-site and the top boards will be viewable live over the Internet!

Did you know that Nova Scotia’s only native-born chess grandmaster, GM Aman Hambleton (of Chessbrah fame) is confirmed to play in the inaugural Nova Scotia Mayflower Open? GM Eduardo Rozentalis of Lithuania will also play. Notable participants in the Canadian Seniors Chess Championship include defending Canadian Seniors 65+ Chess Champion, IM Leon Piasetski, British Columbia; 2-time Canadian Seniors 50+ Chess Champion, David Cummings, Ontario and IM Jean Hébert, Quebec.
