Hope everyone had a great summer! Fall is around the corner, days are getting cooler and the school year is starting. That means………. the official NSSCA tournament season is here!
We are proud of everyone who has kept up with chess during the pandemic. Whether you played in our unofficial bi-weekly online tournaments or with your family members and friends, we know this year you are more ready for the season than ever before! If you have had a break from chess during this time, then now is the time to get back into it! We also welcome new players to get into the fun too!
We are delighted to announce that we will soon be kicking off the season with our first official NSSCA tournament. For now, we will launch our 2020/21 season with online tournaments using the lichess.org platform until we can host over the board tournaments that are safe for players, volunteers and parents. Just like our tournaments every year, these events will be rated by the Chess’n’Math Association of Canada and you will still be playing for medals or prizes!
Planning is underway to see how we can simulate the ambience of our real-life events virtually as much as possible. More information will be coming soon on how these tournaments will operate. For now, there are a few things that you can do to get ready! If you don’t already have a Lichess account, it’s important to create one and familiarize yourself with the lichess.org platform as soon as you can. Getting an account is FREE. Instructions on how to do this and a video tutorial can be found here.
Thank you Jerjis Kapra for taking the initiative to host biweekly online casual tournaments during the pandemic and ensuring that local players had the opportunity to play chess while over the board events were cancelled. These casual events will continue, but will switch to a monthly schedule as our official NSSCA season begins. The next one will be held on September 6th (see event calendar for more details). We encourage everyone to continue playing in these free casual events!
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The NSSCA team is excited to be able to continue bringing you chess events. I personally look forward to seeing everyone again at our events soon!
